About Fred
Born in 1960. Fred had a normal childhood until the end of the Second grade. In 1968 his Dad Fred Sr started his own mechanical business. Of course little Freddie at the time wanted to play with his friends in the alley & woods behind house in Westview, Baltimore county Maryland that was when he was introduced to the work belt!!! So every morning in the summer time Freddie went to work as a helper with his dad learning all the materials and tools for all the trades until 1978 when he graduated from high school in Woodlawn Baltimore County Maryland. Freddie had his journeyman licenses in all the trades by this time since there could only be one master in the company at that time which was his dad.
Fred couldn’t wait to get into college away from the hot construction summers. Fred played college football at what was then Salisbury State College. This allowed him not to work in the mechanical trades!!! In 1982 Fred graduated from SSC with a degree in business & a concentration in marketing & Advertisement.
His first real job away from the family mechanical construction business was a company called Raub Supply out of Pennsylvania in Jessup, Maryland. Fred knew everything in the catalog that they sold & exactly what they did or replaced.
After 2 years of being a salesman without needing training!! He quickly took over the largest account in the company, all the large equipment warrantees, and suggested a show room!! In 1984 he personally built the first kitchen & bath showroom in Jessup. Now running the showroom working the location many clients wanted a good contractor? Fred referred his dad but his dad was overloaded & referred them back to him ! quote “ he has licenses he can do it!!” At this time he wasn’t making much but long hours on a salary!!! So he took a small bathroom side Job and made more on that job then he made in a 1/2 year!! So in 1985 he went back to work for his dad.
In 2000 his dad drops dead of a heart attack so little Freddie takes over & changes directions
Opening the first kitchen & bath showroom with full service in house contractors, Howard County Maryland
Building the showroom at night in a shopping center & jobs in the day opening 9 months later.
After having problems with the stone cutting company in 2003 he completed the construction of his own granite & Marble company built with his own 2 hands after 3 years opening the first Granite and Marble company in Kent county!
In 2004 adding a cabinet shop & glass shop!! All creating a big situation!! He was the only person who could do all the work. All the employees were helpers! No one wanted to learn all the trades !!
In 2008 for 8 months he hosted a 1 hour home improvement show on FM Talk 105.7 the largest radio show in Maryland, Delaware, & Virginia. Answering all trade questions on the air !! Unfortunately the station changed to 105.7 The Fan sports talk.
In the fall of 2010 Fred was struck down with stage 4a head neck & throat cancer. He survived by being the first oral robotic surgery in Maryland & Johns Hopkins history. Accounting for his life today!! 14 years cancer free he has moved to Finksburg Maryland after purchasing moms house after her passing in 2022. Falling in love with the people & lifestyle!!
Today this summer he is launching DGM Inc; Fredfixes everything!!
